Pakistan made its International ODI debut against New Zealand on Feb 11, 1973 @ Christchurch. A 40 over match@ 8 balls/over, Pakistan won the toss & put Kangroos to bat first. New Zealand were all out for 188 in 38.3 overs.

In reply, Pakistan played well but lost it at the end. Pakistan got all out in 33.3 overs, after scoring 165 runs. Sadiq Muhammad, with his 37, was the highest scorer from Team Pakistan. Intakhab Alam was the first ever ODI Captain of Pakistan.

Pakistan lost its first match, but in a year time, they were going to beat Masters of Cricket, England, @ their home.
