Sultan Rahi -The Client East Wood of Lollywood
Sultan Rahi was functionally the Client East Wood of Lollywood.
Born Muhammad Sultan Khan in 1938, Pindi Boy charmed to try his luck in Lollywood during mid 1950’s, the golden era of Pakistani Cinema.He debuted with 1956’s movie Baghi, in a small stunt role.
He struggled with his luck for next 15 years, eating & drinking famine in small rented rooms. He got recognition with film Babul in 1971.
Next year he bagged to role Basheera, the leading man of Aslam Dar film. Basheera went hit & opened the doors of stardom for Rahi Sahb .Rahi did Wehshi Jatt in 1975 and got popularity as an Action Hero. Maula Jatt was released in 1979, became an instant hit & made Rahi an action hero of larger than life limits.
A new star was born, actually a mega star had emerged in Lollywood. Rahi ruled the trade till his death day, on Jan 9, 1996. Rahi worked in, more or less, 1000 movies including 703 Punjabi, more than 100 Urdu & some others which never released. Rahi was a Legend; the day he died, once the industry was halted & felt his absence for almost next decade.
His film Maula Jatt is regarded as the Lollywood’s biggest blockbuster of all times.
